Darcie and Brandie fish the Florida Keys; fishing deep saltwater wrecks and the sea bottom for huge snappers, kingfish and mutton snapper. Capt. Kevin Rowley of Unrelenting Charters on a 31 Competitor put the women on the fish. These women understand how to hook ’em, reel them in and gaff.
Kevin utilized the cast internet to capture live pilchards. The pilchards were connected onto a normal bottom rig or “knocker” rig. Darcie’s set-up was a Precise Fishing reel spooled with 50lb braid and a Tsunami Prize Series rod. The mainline goes to a mono leader, an 8oz weight is included that slides on the line, then a bead and barrel swivel and after that a 40lb flourocarbon leader of great length, 10 feet or more. The hook is a MUSTAD circle hook, 1/0 to 4/0 depending upon bait size.
Darcie was attached initially to what ended up being a mutton, Brandie soon afterwards hooked into a huge kingfish. While all that was going on Capt. Kevin saw a mahi and tossed a bait at it. All fish were landed masterfully.
